Let it be - The Beatles
本日も「音な英語」へようこそ！
今回ご紹介する曲は、The Beatlesで「Let it be」です。
1970年3月にビートルズが発表した22枚目のシングル曲となります。
また、ビートルズ13作目のアルバム『Let It Be』に収録されています。

いわずとしれたビートルズ後期の代表曲にして、解散寸前のどん底状態で作られたある種の「やけくソング」でもあります。
タイトル「Let it be」は、もう世界で何千回と訳されたことでしょう「なすがまま」です。
名義はレノン＝マッカートニー、これはポールとジョンが主ビートルズの曲を作っていたのでこのようにクレジットされていますが、実際はポール単独です。
（もしかしたら一縷の望みに託したポールの想いが重ねられていたのかもしれませんね）
よく語られている話ではありますが、曲中の「Mother Mary」とは「聖母マリア」と、ポールの亡き母「メアリー」を被せていると言われています。
この表現は、どん底状態にあったポールの心境が伺える描写でもあります。きっと最後は大きな母のような存在に包まれたかったのでしょうね。
しかし時を経て今では、絶望を生きる人々に勇気を与える曲として語り継がれるようになりました。
個人的にはジョンがフェンダー・ベースVI（ベースよりのバリトンギター）を使って、ペースパートを演奏しているのが面白いと思います。
（この曲以外でも、ヘイジュードではジョージがフェンダー・ベースVIを使っていたりと、ポールがピアノを弾くときは誰かがベースを演奏するという意外と律義にバンド形式を崩さないところがいいですね）
